Purposes: 6. Creating Pace

Alyx Entwistle

Creating pace is basically the creation of an emotion through the camera shots and movements, as well as the music. It is pointless having a mellow soundtrack and slow camera movements in a car chase scene. You expect lots of quick camera shots and movements as well as a piece of fast, up beat music to accompany it.

The music has to be appropriate when playing it with a scene. It's unlikely that you are going to hear a song by Calvin Harris in a romantic scene, the same way you probably won't hear an Elton John song in a fight scene.
